Nanchang University Queen Mary School

Nanchang University Queen Mary School is responsible for the operation and management of the Joint Programme delivering Clinical Medicine/Biomedical Sciences between Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) and Nanchang University (NCU) . The programme is the first national sino-foreign joint programme in clinical medicine major, which creats a precedent for high-level international medical education cooperation in Jiangxi Province. After five-year study, students will obtain two degrees when graduate: Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences from QMUL, and Bachelor of Medicine in Clinical Medicine from NCU.

Adhering to the mission of innovating medical education, Nanchang University Queen Mary School introduces advanced experience of overseas education. Through the combination of both sides’ strengths in China and Western, the school aims to enable students to have capability for scientific research and also to apply the basic knowledge and skills of clinical medicine into practice. In this way, they could adapt themselves to internationally competitive settings and become new-type and high-quality medical talents. During the talents cultivation, the programme strictly abides by the “Regulations of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) on Chinese-Foreign Cooperative Education”. It designs the curriculum by taking clinical medicine as its main stem or core, combined with preponderant discipline of QMUL-biomedical sciences to design the curriculum. The “Flying Faculty” from London come to Nanchang to teach lectures face-to-face.

The key features of the school include the following: 1. Pay attention to students’ knowledge structure and the cultivation of scientific thinking mode; 2. Strengthen students’ independent learning ability and encourage them to use reference materials; 3. Promote students’ active learning without cramming and carry out the interaction between teachers and students inside and outside the classroom. 4. Bring up students’ ability of scientific research and academic expression. 5. Carry out tutorial system, in which students will be instructed to complete their graduation thesis and present their research results.
