Gold prize to welcome the New Year | Queen Mary School foster virtue through education, and celebrate happy events in this new year

On the occasion of the Spring Festival, staff and students of Queen Mary School gave New Year blessings, wishing all walk have strength and pace like a tiger (martial gait), fly like a Peng (giant bird) and swim fast like a Kun (enormous legendary fish) in the Chinese Year of Tiger. Looking back on 2021, under the joint efforts of all staff and students, Queen Mary School has made magnificent achievements. The students have achieved great success in various competitions, demonstrating the strength of QM students to all walks of life. In order to commend excellent students of both character and academic performance, Queen Mary School has established the “Student of the Year” award and the “NCU-QMUL Joint Programme Scholarship”. Accordingly, an awarding ceremony was held at the end of the year. What is more gratifying is that Professor Luo Zhijun, Dean of Queen Mary School, received the “Lushan Friendship Award” from The People’s Government of Jiangxi Province in 2022, in recognition of his prominent contributions to the training of talents in medicine for society and to the local economic and social development of Jiangxi Province.

The awarding ceremony of the“NCU-QMUL Joint Programme Scholarship” for the 2020-2021 academic year and the “Student of the Year” award of 2020 and 2021 was grandly held in the interactive teaching classroom on January 14, 2021. All staff and student representatives of the school were present, and Mr. Xiao Hua’an, the head of students counsellors of the School, moderated the event.

Professor Luo Zhijun, the dean of Queen Mary School, first briefed the work completed by the school in 2021 to the staff and students with illustration, demonstrating the fruitful achievements of the school in terms of teaching, admissions, talent training and team construction. Professor Luo then depicted goals and prospects for 2022, which is the 10th anniversary of the Joint Programme, encouraging the teachers and students to make persistent efforts and move to a new horizon together.

The head of the School Party Committee，Mr. Yin Zhonglin, acknowledged all the teachers and students for their hard working and efforts in the past year in his speech, hoping that everyone continue to unite together with one heart and one mind to build a warm family in Queen Mary School. He sent a message to students of Queen Mary School, saying that: Always bear in mind the General Secretary, Xi Jinping’s ardent entrustment to young people, keep far-reaching aspiration and work down to the earth, bravely shoulder the mission of the times despite trials and tribulations, integrate the pursuit of personal ideals into the cause of the Party and the State and make more contributions to the Party, the motherland and the people.

To further expand the influence of Queen Mary School, encourage the students to study hard and forge ahead, and create a positive learning atmosphere, Nanchang University and Queen Mary University of London has established the “NCU-QMUL Joint Programme Scholarship”. A total of 97 students were awarded prizes in the 2020-2021 academic year. Mr. Xiao Hua 'an, Head of Students Counsellors, Mrs. Yang Yi, Vice Dean of the School, and Mr. Duan Dehua, Vice Dean of the School, presented the certificates of merit to the awardees.

To thoroughly learn and implement General Secretary Xi Jinping’s Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era，implement the important exposition of General Secretary Xi Jinping on youth and implement the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education, the school aims at mobilizing students to tap their own potential by setting up advanced typical characters students and stimulating students' enterprising spirit. All these means lead to students' all-round development in morality, intelligence, physique, beauty and labor, and personalized and diversified development of talents. Toward this purpose, Queen Mary School decides to select "Student of The Year" among students every year. Miss Wei Qian, a 2019 cohort student and Miss Xin Anran, a 2017 cohort student, won the honors of "Student of The Year" of 2020 and 2021, respectively. Professor Luo Zhijun and Mr. Yin Zhonglin presented them with certificates of merit.

2. Professor Luo Zhijun received the “Lushan Friendship Award” of Jiangxi Province

On the afternoon of January 30th, Chen Weirong, Deputy Director of Science and Technology Department of Jiangxi Province and Director of Bureau of Foreign Experts Affairs of Jiangxi Province, visited Professor Luo Zhijun on behalf of the Department of Science and Technology and presented the "2020 Lushan Friendship Award" to Professor Luo.

"Lushan Friendship Award" is the highest award issued by Jiangxi provincial government to foreign experts working in Jiangxi province. It has been 24 years since its establishment in 1990. Up to now, 267 foreign experts have received this award. The 11 foreign experts who received the "Lushan Friendship Award" in 2020 are from 7 countries, including the United States, Italy, the Philippines, Belarus, Iran, Ghana, and Canada.
