Debate Team of Queen Mary School Gains Championship in the 31st Nanchang University Debate Competition

Recently, the 31st Nanchang University debate competition which themed "Uphold Truth, Surpass Thoughts" has came to a successful end. Standing out among 28 teams across the university, the Queen Mary School debate team emerged victorious after a series of hard-fought matches. Their standout performance in the final secured the championship—the team’s best result to date—and marked a new milestone for university debating.

Driven by a steadfast commitment to the art of debate, the team left no stone unturned in their preparation. Before the contest, the team followed a rigorous training schedule. They delved deeply into every debate topic, collected abundant materials, sorted out core viewpoints and built strict logical frameworks. Weekly practice debates with other schools sharpened their rhetorical skills and quick thinking through repeated offensive and defensive drills. On stage, debaters from Queen Mary School drew on a wide range of knowledge, combining incisive reasoning with compelling delivery. With sharp thinking and incisive remarks, they advanced steadily in every round. From making their mark in the top-14 knockout round to competing against formidable rivals in the semi-final, they consistently displayed remarkable adaptability and strong teamwork.

In the final, the two sides staged a fierce summit debate on ''whether the essence of Chinese culture resides in artistic conception or moral principle." Our debaters cited classics and allusions, elaborating the core value of "morality" as the unique symbol of Chinese culture from poetic beauty to spiritual pursuit of Chinese people. During the free debate session, members accurately seized logical flaws and responded calmly. Their profound opening statements, pressing inquiries and inspiring concluding remarks earned high praise from the judges and warm applause from the audience.
