Commencement of the 2016 Cohort Students of Queen Mary School

211 students of the 2016 cohort of Queen Mary School in the joint programme have graduated successfully, obtaining two degrees, Bachelor of Medicine in Clinical Medicine from Nanchang University (NCU) and Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences from Queen Mary University of London (QMUL). From now on, the students started a new journey in life careers. The graduation ceremony was held in the presence of leaders from Nanchang University on site and leaders from Queen Mary University of London online on June 25. Professor ZHOU Chuangbing, President, and guests from different departments/schools/colleges of Nanchang University attended the ceremony. Guests from Queen Mary University of London were Professor Colin Bailey, Principal and President, Professor Colin Grant, Vice President, Professor Richard Pickersgill, Professor Mark Maconochie, and Dr. Giulia De Falco, Reader. The two Universities delivered congratulations to 211 graduates.

At the beginning of the ceremony, President ZHOU expressed his congratulations, best wishes and sincere expectations to the graduates. He said that the graduates must keep patriotism in mind, be excellent in medical knowledge and skills, and diligent to make personal achievements and create bright future of our country. Principal Colin Bailey congratulated them for successful graduation. He hoped that the graduates never forget the mission of Queen Mary alumni and someday in future Queen Mary will be proud of them because of  their outstanding performance in medical service and research.  Afterwards, Miss FANG Wenjia represented the graduates to make an acknowledgement speech. She said she was a naïve girl at the beginning of the studies and has built up her knowledge structure under the joint efforts of NCU and Queen Mary teachers. She was lucky to enter the school and thankful to the joint programme because it provides her a foundation to become a clinical doctor and researcher in medical sciences. Finally, Professor HUANG Guojun encouraged students to work hard, achieve life goal, and make important contributions to the world.

Next, Excellent Graduate Awards from both Universities, and the degrees, Bachelor of Medicine from Nanchang University and Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences, were conferred to the graduates. Apparently, they were excited to march to the stage to receive their diplomas. In the end, Professor Maconochie, Co-director of the Joint Programme made a thoughtful and unwillingly farewell speech. He said he was proud to see students to accomplish studies and successfully graduate. He joked with the students not to forget that it was from the joint programme to start the first step towards Nobel prize.


After the ceremony, the graduates enjoyed celebration buffet, took photos, and finally said good-by to teachers and one another.


May the graduates of 2016 cohort bright and productive in their medical careers with the spirit of noble ethics and superb medical skills.
