Celebration of 10th Anniversary of NCU-QMUL Joint Programme

On October 28th, the celebration ceremony of the 10th year of NCU-QMUL Joint Programme in Clinical Medicine/Biomedical Sciences was held in Music Hall. Professor Chen Yeguang, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and executive vice president of Nanchang University, Mrs. Chen Weirong, Deputy Director of the Jiangxi Provincial Science and Technology Department and Director of the Jiangxi Foreign Experts Bureau, Professors Deng Xiaohua and Liu Yaobin, Vice Presidents of Nanchang University attended the ceremony.

Congratulation and wish words were delivered via video by Professor Zhou Chuangbing, President of NCU, who were on travel, Professor Colin Bailey, Academician of the Royal Academy of Engineering Sciences, United Kingdoms, President of QMUL, Professor Rao Yi, a postgraduate advisor representative of the joint programme alumni and President of Capital Medical University, and Wu Qilong, a representative of the first cohort of graduates.


Chen Weirong said that over the past ten years, the Joint Programme had cultivated a large number of innovative medical students with high quality and international vision to the society, became a model of Sino-foreign cooperation in Jiangxi Province and helped to launch innovation of medical education in our province. She promised that Jiangxi Provincial Science and Technology Department and Jiangxi Foreign Experts Bureau would further support the construction and development of Nanchang University, and support Queen Mary School to continuously expand and improve the level of cooperative education as well as its quality as it always, so as to make new contributions to education, science and technology and human resources in China.

Mr. Chen Yeguang expressed his gratitude to all individuals for their support and concern of the Joint Programme, and praised the remarkable achievements in cultivation of medical students and innovation of medical education by taking advantages of strength of both the Universities. He hoped that the 10th anniversary of the joint programme serve as a new starting point in undertaking the reform of medical education cultivating more and more medical students who are capable of doing both clinical work and biomedical research, and contributing to international cooperation and exchanges of the university and accelerating the construction of a world-class university.

"The faculty members of the Joint Programme are experienced, try their best efforts to inspire and nurture students, and make outstanding contributions to the training of medical students." "I sincerely thank the faculty for their dedicated work and tirelessly teaching." "Standing on the stage of the GapSummit (Global Biotechnology Leaders Summit) Global Finals, I realised the reward and benefit from the joint programme curriculum.", said Pu Changqin, a 2019 cohort student. Professor Huang Guojun, a representative of the faculty, and Li Kuangxun, Pu Changqin, Wei Yanchen and Yuan Lishu, representatives of the current students, made speeches one after another, reviewing the development of the School over the past ten years and expressing their appreciation on the joint programme.

The joint programme between Nanchang University and Queen Mary University of London was the first high-level Sino-foreign cooperation clinical medicine undergraduate offering double degrees which pioneers the high-level Sino-foreign cooperation in undergraduate education in Jiangxi Province.

The Joint Programme was approved by the Ministry of Education in October 2012, and started recruitment of students nationwide in autumn 2013, and Queen Mary School of Nanchang University was formally established in 2015.

To date, 10 cohorts of students have been enrolled, with 250 students of each cohort. Upon graduation, students receive Bachelor of Medicine degree from Nanchang University and Bachelor of Biomedical Science degree from Queen Mary University of London.


The ceremony also included an oral presentation competition for students' research in English, an exhibition of academic achievements. The winners were selected by the judging panel consisting of QMUL and NCU faculty members.

At last a performance party on the theme of "Our Decade" was held in the evening.


The other distinguished guests were invited from some schools of Medical College which responsible for teaching the joint programme and from relevant functional departments of the University.
