Delightful Announcement! Zhang Yiwei from Queen Mary School Honored with the 2025 BaoGang Education Award for Outstanding Students!

Recently, the on-campus defense session for the 2025 BaoGang Scholarship at Nanchang University successfully concluded. Zhang Yiwei, a student from Queen Mary school , stood out in the intense competition after undergoing a rigorous selection process that included a personal application, a preliminary school review, an initial university evaluation, along with the final defense. With an outstanding academic performance, demonstrably noteworthy research capabilities, and well-rounded comprehensive aptitudes, he achieved the highest overall defense score, and earned the BaoGang Education Award for Outstanding Students. Furthermore, he was nominated as a candidate for the BaoGang Special Award for Outstanding Students. This marks the third time since 2022 that a student from our school has ranked first within the university, following Li Kuangxun in 2022 and Pu Changqin in 2023.

Zhang Yiwei, a 2021 enrollee of Queen Mary School, earned the BaoGang Education Award for Outstanding Students.


His academic performance has consistently ranked among the top of his cohort, with notable scores of 609 in the CET-4 and 606 in the CET-6. He has been awarded the National Second Prize in the National Medical Vocabulary Competition and the Provincial First Prize in the National English Contest for College Students. With regard to research, he has authored six SCI-indexed publications, including three as senior author or co-first author, one of which was published in Research (a flagship Science partner journal and a CAS Q1 Top Journal). He has also won multiple national awards in competitions such as the China International College Students' Innovation Competition and the National Biology Competition for College Students. Among his honors are one National Scholarship, three Special Merit Student Scholarships, and three recognitions as a "Model Student for Academic Excellence." Balancing volunteer service and health science communication, he was honored as an Outstanding Volunteer at the International Prion Conference and received the Second Prize in the Nanchang "Youth Red Ribbon" Health Science Popularization Competition.

“I am deeply honored and grateful to receive this award. My heartfelt thanks go to the dual-degree partnership program between Nanchang University and Queen Mary University of London. Its English-taught curriculum, which integrates Clinical Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, has solidly built my professional foundation, broadened my global perspective, nurtured my scientific research mindset, and strengthened my sense of social responsibility.

I also extend my sincere appreciation to the university and our college for the valuable opportunities provided, to every faculty member for their dedicated guidance, to the senior students for their selfless support, and to my peers for their companionship throughout this journey.

This honor is not only a recognition but also an inspiration.
