2024 Symposium of Jiangxi Province Chinese-Foreign Joint Education: Focusing on Elite Talent Cultivation

To explore opportunities for Chinese-foreign cooperative education and to strengthen the exchange of experience in Chinese-foreign cooperative education in Jiangxi Province, 2024 Symposium of Jiangxi Province Chinese-Foreign Joint Education was held at the International Academic Exchange Center of Nanchang University on October 11, focusing on elite talent cultivation under the innovative model of Chinese-foreign cooperation.

Symposium Scene


The symposium was organized by Nanchang University and hosted by the Nanchang University Queen Mary School. Attendees included Liu Xiaoqiang, Deputy Director of the Jiangxi Provincial Department of Education; Luo Sihai, Party Secretary of Nanchang University; Lin Jinhui, Chairman of the Chinese-Foreign Cooperative Education Research Branch of the China Association of Higher Education; and other experts, scholars, and distinguished guests. The opening ceremony was presided over by Wu Dan, a member of the Party Standing Committee and Vice President of Nanchang University.

Symposium Scene


Mr. Liu Xiaoqiang, affirmed the persistent efforts and remarkable achievements made by Jiangxi Province in the field of Chinese-foreign cooperative education. Jiangxi is actively implementing the spirit of the National Education Conference, rapidly drafting an "Educational Power Province" planning outline, and focusing on introducing high-level foreign science and engineering universities. This initiative is expected to inject strong momentum into the high-quality development of Chinese-foreign cooperative education in the province, elevating the education sector to new heights.

Professor Luo Sihai emphasized that in recent years, Nanchang University has continuously strengthened its ties with universities around the world, launching a series of fruitful joint programs. These efforts have significantly enhanced the university's educational capabilities and international influence, leading to notable achievements in Chinese-foreign cooperative education and providing a strong impetus for the internationalization of education in Jiangxi. For the next steps, Luo expressed the hope that the university could soon upgrade its joint programme between NCU and QMUL to Chinese-foreign Education  Institution, optimize student recruitment sources and academic structures, and transition from educational cooperation to scientific research collaboration. These actions would further foster the development of high-quality talents and consolidate and expand the achievements of Chinese-foreign cooperative education at Nanchang University, contributing to the establishment of a shared future for humanity.

Professor Lin Jinhui pointed out that innovation in talent cultivation models must firmly grasp the policy boundaries of Chinese-foreign cooperative education, with moral education as the foundation. Mr. Lin also emphasized the importance of understanding the key elements of high-level development in Chinese-foreign cooperative education, leveraging the proactive role of universities, breaking through institutional barriers, and continuously optimizing and innovating to elevate Chinese-foreign cooperative education to new heights.

Following the opening ceremony, Dean Luo Zhijun of Nanchang University Queen Mary School and Lu Chun, Executive President of City University of Hong Kong (Dongguan), delivered keynote reports. Dean Luo summarized the remarkable achievements and valuable experience of over a decade of Chinese-British medical education cooperation at Nanchang University. President Lu emphasized the significant role of high-quality Chinese-foreign cooperative education in building an educational powerhouse.

Subsequently, a series of impressive reports were delivered by prominent figures including Wang Yongxin, Deputy Dean of Queen Mary University of London Engineering School, Northwestern Polytechnical University; Xiao Guiping, Deputy Dean of Lancaster University College at Beijing Jiaotong University; Zhang Jian, Deputy Dean of Southern University of Science and Technology-Kings College London School of Medicine; Fan Suohai, Deputy Dean of Jinan University-University of Birmingham Joint Institute at Jinan University; Zhu Dan, Dean of University of Leicester Joint Institute, Chongqing Medical University; Huang Tao, Deputy Dean of Southwest Jiaotong University-University of Leeds Joint School; Wang Xiaoshang, Deputy Party Secretary of the Alberta Institute Wenzhou Medical University; Xu Shizhong, Deputy Dean of University of Glasgow-University of Electronic Science and Technology of China Joint School; Zhou Jin, Deputy Dean of Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology Reading Academy; Mark Maconochie, Co-director of the Chinese-British Joint Programme of Queen Mary University of London; Wang Yongxiang, Director of the Engineering Management Program jointly hosted by East China Jiaotong University and Anglia Ruskin University; and other experts. They covered a wide range of topics such as the experience of Chinese-foreign cooperative medical education, cultivating internationally competitive undergraduate talent in materials science, exploring and practicing quality assurance in Chinese-foreign cooperative education, and new paths for cross-disciplinary talent cultivation through Chinese-British biomedical education integration.


During the symposium, guests gathered at the First Conference Room of the Qianhu Hotel for a roundtable discussion on institutional experience in Chinese-foreign cooperative education. The atmosphere was lively, with continuous exchanges of ideas. Experts and scholars discussed new models, challenges, and opportunities for Chinese-foreign cooperative education, sharing their success stories and deep insights from their respective cooperative efforts. All parties expressed their commitment to further strengthening collaboration, exploring more diverse and higher-quality models for Chinese-foreign cooperative education, and expanding new directions and pathways for cooperation.

This symposium provided a valuable platform for domestic and international scholars to gain a deeper understanding of the latest trends and cutting-edge ideas in Chinese-foreign cooperative education and to foster collaboration. Nanchang University will take this forum as an opportunity to adhere to its internationalization strategy, strengthen cooperation and exchange with world-renowned universities and educational institutions, and contribute to the cultivation of more high-quality talents with global vision and innovative capabilities.
