Carry on medical journey with the Spirit

-2017 Cohort Graduation Ceremony of the Joint Programme of Clinical Medicine/Biomedical Sciences between Nanchang University and Queen Mary University of London were successfully held.

235 students of 2017 cohort from Queen Mary School, Nanchang University have successfully graduated, and from now on, the students started the new chapter of their life. The 2017 Cohort Graduation Ceremony was held on the afternoon of June 21st with the presence of leaders from both Nanchang University (NCU) and Queen Mary University of London (QMUL). President ZHOU Chuangbing, Executive Vice President CHEN Yeguang, Vice President DENG Xiaohua and other guests from other departments of Nanchang University attended. Principal Colin Bailey, Vice Principal Wang Wen, Vice Principal Colin Grant as well as other Programme leaders and teachers from Queen Mary University of London showed up online. The two universities celebrated the exciting moment and delivered congratulations to 2017 cohort.

At the beginning of the ceremony, the dean of Queen Mary School of Nanchang University, LUO Zhijun introduced the outstanding achievements of the Joint Programme, which is the China’s first Sino-foreign cooperative education project in clinical medicine. In the past eight years, the school has achieved remarkable results, with a continuous output of medical talents and opening a door for the world to understand Nanchang University in depth. This year, the graduates of the 2017 Cohort has once again showcased the ability of our school to parents, to both universities and to the whole society: the graduate admission rate of undergraduates is as high as 63%. Among them, the acceptance rate of well-known foreign universities, domestic universities of Project 985/211 and famous independent medical universities is 95.9%, and 13 students have been admitted to study for doctors degree.

A speech was delivered by President ZHOU Chuangbing as the first item of the ceremony. He expressed the acknowledgement of the successful cooperation between the two universities, the praise of outstanding achievement of the school and congratulations to the graduates. He earnestly asked the students to carry forward the spirit of the school, which is "gathering elites from home and abroad, aiming for world class, inheriting the virtues, and achieving greatness", He also encouraged students to set sail in the future life journey fearlessly. Colin Bailey, Principal of Queen Mary University of London, said to the graduates : "The graduates of the Joint programme have learnt amazing clinical skills, excellent scientific knowledge as well as an international perspective. We hope that they will use their knowledge to make a significant contribution to the society.

The part of delivering NCU Excellent Graduate Award, Queen Mary School award and Presidents award became the climax of graduation ceremony. Next, Bachelor of Medicine from NCU and Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences from QMUL, were conferred to the graduates. Apparently, they were excited to march to the stage to receive their diplomas.

Afterwards, Miss LI Yiran and Assistant Professor HU Xiaojuan represented the graduates and teachers respectively to make speech. They looked back on the past five years and described it fruitful; They also encouraged the students to continue to seize the day and live it to the fullest. The ceremony ended with a concluding speech by Mark Maconochie, Co-director of the Joint Programme.

After the ceremony, the graduates raised their glasses and sang at the tea party. In the end, Dean LUO Zhijun and Party Secretary YIN Zhonglin made the last farewell speech.

All good things come to an end. The students of the 2017 Cohort are about to leave their university and carry on a new journey in life. Five years ago, they gathered from all over the world. The seeds of our dreams took root and germinated under the soil from the cultivation of both universities. In the five years of training, the students marched on bravely and climbed the peaks. Time changes but the original intention is still here. We hope the graduates can always remember the spirit of NCU and QMUL and live a meaningful life with it.

Queen Mary School of Nanchang University will continue to summarize experience and improve teaching quality based on existing achievements, and forge ahead on the road of training international medical elites who are competent for both clinical work and scientific research.
